Three Dangerous Food Toxins
Environmental pollution is a global crisis that affects all of us on a very local level – at the dining room table. Brand-new studies show that high levels of toxic chemicals are in our tuna salads, our green bean casseroles, and even our apple pies. They threaten our children’s development and put us at increased risk for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The good news is that you can still eat the food you love and reduce your exposure to these deadly poisons. Follow these straightforward steps to detoxify your family's food supply.
Mercury in Fish
The Hidden Danger
Eating fish seems like one of the healthiest food choices you can make; fish is low in fat and high in protein and brain-supporting Omega-3 fatty acids. Unfortunately their homes – our oceans, seas, and lakes – are filled with pollutants. One of the most potent is methylmercury, which once absorbed by algae sets off a chain of toxic accumulation: small fish eat the algae, bigger fish eat the smaller fish and so on up the food chain until these mercury-packed fish find their way to your supermarket.
When mercury gets into our bloodstream, it goes right to our brain and attacks our nervous system. Left untreated it can cause permanent neuropsychiatric brain damage, learning disorders in children, autoimmune disease, and even heart problems.
Symptoms of mercury poisoning: - Difficulty thinking and/or concentrating
- Tremors
- Fatigue
- Insomnia
- Hair loss
- Muscle and joint pain
- Unsteady gait
- Numbness in fingers and toes
Your Safety Strategy
Even if you don’t have these symptoms, mercury can still do you harm. It is the second most toxic agent next to plutonium, so experts recommend minimizing it as much as possible in your diet.
As a general rule, fish that are larger and caught when they are older have the most mercury. Salmon, which are usually caught around the age of 3, have some of the lowest levels (plus the highest levels of omega-3s) making them a great choice. Other small, young fish include herrings and sardines. Among the fish with the highest levels are tuna (especially albacore), tilefish, swordfish, king mackerel and shark. The Food and Drug Administration recommends that people eat albacore tuna once a week at most and chunk tuna no more than twice a week. Pregnant women (or those trying to conceive) should avoid high-mercury fish as much as possible.
Bisphenol-A
The Hidden Danger
Often referred to as BPA, this chemical is used to create clear, hard plastics (such as reuseable water bottles) and line metal cans to protect us from botulism. Unfortunately, animal studies have shown that high levels of BPA lead to obesity, fertility problems, breast and prostate cancers, diabetes and heart disease. Even more troubling – human studies are beginning to show similar results.
Recent tests discovered that more than 90% of us have a measurable level of BPA in our bloodstreams and experts say that children who eat several daily servings of canned food (which includes juices, infant formula, as well as fruits and vegetables) can receive a dose of BPA comparable to the levels that caused harm in animal studies.
Your Safety Strategy- Steer clear of any containers with the number 7 and the initials PC on the bottom as well as any clear, hard plastic containers with no labeling.
- Buy BPA-free baby bottles and training cups.
- Switch to stainless steel or aluminum sports water bottles.
- Heat food in glass containers in the microwave.
- Look for alternatives to canned food, beverages, and infant formula. Choose fresh or frozen whenever possible.
Pesticides
Even though we always hear about the benefits of organic food, one-third of all fruits and vegetables sold in this country are still covered in pesticides. These poisons, which are intended to kill pests, can also hurt us. Research shows that some of them – called neurotoxins – can harm our brains and nervous systems. One recent study found that children with a high level of a certain pesticide had an increased chance of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and developmental disorders similar to autism. Other pesticides, which mimic hormone activity, can possibly reduce fertility. And scientists recently discovered that exposure to one of the most common weed killers increased weight gain in animals by 10%.
Your Safety Strategy
A Seattle study demonstrates how going organic can immediately affect our health. Researchers tested the urine of a group of typical suburban kids and found pesticide levels above those considered safe by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Then they switched the kids to organic versions of the same foods, and the pesticide level in their urine dropped overnight and stayed low. When the children were returned to their regular diets, their pesticide levels shot right back up above the EPA safety limits. - Go organic when it counts. Save your money for the fruits and vegetables most likely to contain pesticides (check out our guide to When to Go Organic [LINK http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/when-go-organic]) and to those you eat frequently. As a general rule, fruits and vegetables with thicker rinds such as bananas, oranges, and avocados will have lower levels of pesticides than those with more permeable skin such as potatoes and strawberries.
- Eat seasonal and local produce, which will have a lower pesticide level, because it does not have to travel far to get to your table.

Bathroom Smells Eliminator
I saw this on Myth Busters:
Mix in equal portions peroxide, baking soda and dish soap.
It will eliminate the odors that are left by other name brand bathroom cleaners.

Cold sores/Herpies virus
Foods high and rich in Lysine kill the herpies virus that cause cold sores on lips and mouth.
You can use yogurt as a source of lysine to use as a topical on cold sores or eat it to be absorbed into your bloodstream/body.

Cancer and Superfoods
Here is a list of some of the top superfoods and how they affect cancer in humans:
Berries and red grapes – We're talking almost any berry that is red or blue. Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, acai berries, gogi berries...they contain phytochemicals that destroy cancer cells both in culture form and in the liver.
Green Tea – The catechins (EGCG) in green tea have anti-cancer properties that prevent and reduce breast and other cancers.
Flaxseed – Contains lignins that have cancer-fighting properties.
Garlic, Onions, Leeks – Just about any part of the allium family has been shown to reduce various types of cancers including stomach and colorectal cancer, prostate and breast cancers, as well as a number of other common cancers.
Broccoli, Broccoli Sprouts, Cruciferous vegetables – Men who eat broccoli 4 times a week have proven that their prostate cancer diminishes. Similar effects have been found when cabbage, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts are eaten. Of note, broccoli sprouts have been shown to demonstrate 20 times the cancer fighting properties of plain broccoli!
Tomatoes – Lycopene is the key ingredient in tomatoes and its benefits are even greater when tomatoes are cooked, so pasta sauces, pizza sauces, etc. are especially good. Studies have identified progress in the areas of prostate, breast, lung, and colon cancer. The FDA is currently disputing these studies (all 72 of them), but most experts believe that the FDA's study is flawed.
Resveratrol found in red wine – Let's hear it for red wine. Resveratrol has been shown to have very powerful cancer-fighting properties which suppresses the abnormal cell growth that leads to many kinds of breast cancer. Resveratrol acts to block the action of estrogen, which is largely responsible for breast cancer. Early studies in lab mice show similar results in prostate cancer. One glass a day should do it.
Watercress, Spinach, Kale – Watercress consumption protects against the kind of DNA damage that leads to tumor formation. Chlorophyllin in spinach and kale has been proven to reduce the risk of liver cancer.
Tumeric – This yellow spice found mainly in Indian curries is curcumin that is considered to be a very powerful antioxidant. It has been proven to prevent and slow tumor growth, and it only takes about 1 teaspoon a day to have an effect. Try adding this to dressings, soups, and your main dishes. A word of warning, if you already have cancer, talk to your doctor before adding tumeric to your diet as it can make your anti-cancer drugs less effective.
Why can't I just take supplements?
Sorry, but you're going to have to add these foods to your diet. While many of the phytonutrients and chemicals that have been identified in superfoods have been extracted and put into supplement form, scientists are finding that they don't always work quite the same way.
There are numerous reasons for this, but the biggest reason is that while we have identified some of the substances contained in these foods, there are literally thousands of other substances we know exist inside of these foods that have yet to be identified. It is hard to say if we've identified exactly the right components, or if the various components work in a synergistic fashion. In other words, the chemicals work better when they are together. Therefore, if we don't know what they are yet, we can't combine them in a supplement.
One more word of caution: you cannot eat a diet that consists primarily of processed and fast food and expect a cup of berries or green tea to counteract any problems. You must eat a diet of rainbow colored fruits and vegetables on a regular basis for them to have the maximum effect. Mom's right. Eat your vegetables!

Stop strokes !
A new study indicates that women over 50 who eat a high fat diet may raise their risk of stroke by almost 45%! Stroke is the third leading cause of death in America; however 80% of all strokes might be prevented through healthy lifestyle. If your diet includes high saturated fat foods (found on meat and dairy products) or low nutrient sugars and syrups, now is the time to change.
Remember the rule of 5 and eliminate from your diet any foods that have saturated fat, trans fat (hydrogenated oils), simple sugars and syrups or simple carbs (white bread, white rice) in the first 5 ingredients.
Feel like you just can’t make that big of a change? I tell my Lifestyle 180 participants to make a pact with me to eliminate red meat from their diet for 6 weeks. On week 7, they are allowed to indulge in that burger or steak they swore they would never give up. And guess what? No one goes out and gets a burger!
Your palate can be trained to like and dislike certain foods and once you’ve gone a while without something you crave, you’ll notice you no longer want it. Try it yourself – can you go 6 weeks with no red meat for the sake of stroke prevention?

Preventing Colorectal Cancer
No routine cancer-screening test brings about more anxiety then a colonoscopy. Not necessarily the worry of results either. It's the test itself that drives people to skip the test. It is invasive, uncomfortable, embarrassing and intimate. It is terribly inconvenient: It takes a day to prepare and a day for the test.
Oh yeah. One more thing. It saves lives.
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the US. It is one of the few cancers you can detect early, but also prevent entirely by catching precancerous polyps before they transform into cancer. Colonoscopy, a technique that visualizes the entire length of the colon and rectum, is the gold standard for colon cancer detection.
About Colonoscopy
The colonoscope is the instrument a doctor (usually a gastroenterologist) or technician will use to view the inside of the colon and rectum. It is a long flexible tube that has a lighted tip and a camera and when it is inserted into the rectum it magnifies the folds and curves of the colon onto a TV screen. When something looks suspicious it can be sampled for testing. Precancerous colorectal polyps – stalks of tissue that grow from cells in the colon's lining – can be snipped off at its neck right then and there.
In order for the colon to be viewed unobstructed by stool, patients prepare in advance. This bowel prep procedure is the part of the process that often makes people uneasy. The preferred method varies widely from physician to physician but the idea is the same; clean the colon clear so that no polyp or cancer is missed. An inadequately cleansed colon can jeopardize the effectiveness of the test.
The best way to clear the colon is to forgo solid food entirely (liquids only) and induce diarrhea to expel what solids are left inside the colon. There are a few methods for bowel cleansing; drinking a copious amount of a salty solution, or pills and water – both cause high-volume diarrhea in a few hours. Your doctor will give you specific instructions so read them carefully a few days in advance. Expect to spend the day near the toilet.
During the procedure you will be sedated, not entirely but in enough of a fog to not care. Bring something to do while you wait, listen to music or practice progressive muscle relaxation. Expect to be there a few hours and arrange for someone understanding to pick you up.
Colonoscopy Survival Guide
Read instructions from your doctor carefully a few days in advance.
Get all prep materials ready a day before -- buy some tasty clear liquids, pops, broths and tea.
Have lemon wedges on hand to help tolerate the salty bowel prep solution.
Buy soothing disposable wet wipes and skin creams to protect the anus on hand.
Make sure family members know that you will need the bathroom at a moments notice.
If you are prone to constipation try using a gentle laxative and herbal tea for a few days before the actual colon cleansing.
Exercise to keep things moving.
Stay hydrated.
Tips for Colorectal Cancer Prevention
In addition to routine colonoscopy you can help prevent colorectal cancer by avoiding factors that increase your risk and adopting lifestyle that promotes colon health.
Screening colonoscopy is recommended for everyone beginning at age 50 (age 45 and older for African Americans) and every 10 years thereafter if all is clear. If you have a single first-degree relative (parent or sibling) diagnosed with colorectal cancer or polyps you may be at a slightly increased risk that may warrant starting colorectal cancer screening at age 40.
There are alternatives to colonoscopy but they are less likely to prevent cancer compared with the invasive tests: guaiac-based fecal occult blood testing (gFOBT), fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) and stool DNA testing (sDNA), barium enema and computed tomography (CT) colonography. Still, most doctors will recommend colonoscopy to screen for colorectal cancer. [A sigmoidoscopy is a similar tool but only visualizes the first third of the colon.]
Here are more ways to keep your colon healthy.
Eliminate red and processed meats or become a vegetarian.
Eat 9 fistfuls of fruits and vegetables a day and include blueberries, which may contain a colon protective chemical.
Eat a diet rich in whole grains and high in fiber.
Reduce or eliminate alcohol.
Take a daily aspirin (review with physician first).
Exercise at least 30 minutes on most days.
Maintain a healthy weight.
Take vitamin D and folic acid.
Maintain health cholesterol profile.
Eat probiotics -- yogurt miso and other fermented soy products -- foods that contain live bacterial cultures that protect the gut flora.

Krill oil capsules/pills are a good source of omega 3 fatty acids that are good for the heart and brain development and also good for lubricating joints for arthritis sufferers. Krill oil is a better alternative to salmon and or fish oil because salmon and or fish oil can have high levels of dangerous mercury.
Krill is a crustation similar to shrimp.

Ingesting the Fennel plant as a tea or eaten raw will increase your lactose digesting enzymes in your stomach needed for properly digesting milk/dairy products. Potency also in the pollen.
Eating fennel will decrease your daily amounts of farting and or decrease the amounts of gas buildup in your stomach.
Fennel is a cure for "lactose intolerancy".
